In 1924, after graduating from Yale, Lewis Stein and Constantine “Gus” Giordano formed an engineering/surveying partnership while both working for the City of New Haven Engineering Department.

While attending high school, Bernard Godfrey began working with Stein & Giordano as a surveyor’s assistant. He continued to work with the firm during summers while attending college. After college, Mr. Godfrey worked as a forester/surveyor for a paper company in Georgia for three years before returning to New Haven with his growing family. Mr. Godfrey then began working for Clarence Blair Associates. During the boom years of the 1950s, Mr. Godfrey tried his hand at running a service station for a few years but soon returned to surveying with Mr. Stein. In the late 1950s Mr. Godfrey introduced Mr. Stein to Mr. Godfrey’s aunt and the two were later married. Upon Mr. Stein’s death in 1960, Mr. Godfrey took over his uncle’s firm.

Three Generations

In 1977, while still in high school, Mr. Adam Hoffman began working at his uncle’s surveying company as a surveyor’s assistant. Mr. Hoffman then left the firm to attend college where he obtained a degree in Forestry with a minor in Land Surveying. After college, Mr. Hoffman began working with Ryan & Faulds in Wilton, and later with Clarence Blair Associates of New Haven, rising in responsibilities and position before returning to Mr. Godfrey’s firm. After obtaining his Surveyor’s License in 1988, Mr. Hoffman was made a partner in the firm which was renamed Godfrey-Hoffman Associates.

Rebranding

In 2000, Mr. Godfrey retired from the firm and Mr. Hoffman reorganized, creating Godfrey-Hoffman Associates, LLC. In 2001 GHA entered into the engineering market when Victor Benni, PE joined the team. In 2010, Adam Hoffman acquired another Survey/Civil in Farmington, Hodge Surveying PC. Hodge has been the go-to firm in the Farmington valley since 1925. On January 1, 2019, the two firms were finally joined and rebranded as Godfrey Hoffman Hodge, LLC. Today Godfrey Hoffman Hodge, LLC is a full-service engineering and surveying firm working throughout the State of Connecticut on private, public, commercial, residential and industrial projects.
